Drooping eyelids

Sagging tissue on the upper eyelids can make the eye area look tense and tired. The upper eyelids are also known as drooping eyelids. If the patient is bothered by this, an upper eyelid lift is recommended. Aesthetics and functionality are always considered when treating drooping eyelids.
When performing an eyelid lift, it is important that not too much tissue is removed, as this can lead to restrictions in eyelid closure. The operation therefore requires a great deal of experience and surgical skill.
The treatment takes place under local anesthesia and optionally under twilight sleep. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, the excess tissue (skin, muscle, connective tissue) is removed from the eyelid. The incisions are closed with fine sutures and protected with plaster bandages.
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) usually takes between one and two hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.
After the eyelid lift, you will rest in our practice for about an hour. If there are no side effects, you can leave the practice accompanied by your doctor.
During the first few days, it is important to cool the treatment areas regularly. In this way, you can counteract swelling and pain. The head can also be elevated to reduce swelling. After seven days, we take a look at the healing process and remove the stitches.
Some redness, swelling and hematomas may remain visible for longer, but will subside within around two weeks.
The discomfort after the operation is usually manageable and is limited to slight swelling, redness and bruising. Occasionally, sensitivity in the treatment area may be temporarily impaired. Postoperative bleeding, inflammation, wound dehiscence or infection rarely occur.
Patients are often fit for work again after 3-4 days.
Physical exertion and sport should be avoided for at least two to three weeks.
The costs of an upper eyelid lift vary depending on the individual findings and the associated surgical effort. In general, costs of around 2000 euros can be expected.
