Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, can cause considerable emotional distress to those affected. Around 1-2% of the German population suffer from this condition, which is characterized by excessive sweating, regardless of temperature, physical exertion or the time of day and season.
Tap water iontophoresis has proven to be an effective treatment for plantar and palmar hyperhidrosis, where excessive sweating of the palms and soles occurs. The affected body part is immersed in two containers filled with tap water, while a weak electric current is passed through it at the same time.
The main treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis involves the use of deodorants containing aluminum chloride. Another option is to inject botulinum toxin into the armpits to safely reduce sweating over a period of six to nine months.
